The Xingyu brand tin-based bearing alloy exhibits high wear resistance, thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance, and embeddability, with a low friction coefficient and thermal expansion coefficient. However, it has relatively low fatigue strength, a maximum operating temperature of 150°C, and is relatively expensive. The microstructure of the bearing alloy consists of hard phase particles uniformly distributed in a soft phase matrix, or soft phase particles in a hard phase matrix, providing excellent wear resistance and anti-friction properties. It offers certain compressive strength and hardness, sufficient fatigue strength and load-bearing capacity, good plasticity and impact toughness, excellent anti-seizure performance, good compliance, strong embeddability, high thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance, and a low thermal expansion coefficient. Unlike rolling bearings, sliding bearings require a low friction coefficient with the shaft surface and minimal shaft journal wear. In thrust bearings, they are used to fix the transmission shaft and bear axial forces (i.e., forces aligned with the axial direction), providing a thrust-limiting function. The part of the thrust bearing that supports the shaft is called the shaft journal, and the component matching the shaft journal is referred to as the bearing bush. Bearings operating under sliding friction, when lubricated with oil, separate the sliding surfaces without direct contact, significantly reducing friction loss and surface wear, extending service life. They are commonly used in high-speed, heavy-load components. The oil film also provides some vibration absorption capacity, making sliding bearings stable, reliable, and quiet during operation. Therefore, Babbitt alloy is an ideal material for sliding and rolling bearing bushes. It is widely used in heavy-duty power machinery, such as high-speed bearing bushes in steam turbines, turbines, and internal combustion engines; compressors, ball mills, and pulper bearing bushes; rolling mills, drying cylinders, and press bearing bushes; marine machinery, chemical machinery, and mining machinery bearing bushes; reducers, pumps, and other mechanical equipment bearing bushes; grinding machine support sliders, mechanical seals, and other applications. Lead-based bearing alloys have lower strength, hardness, corrosion resistance, and thermal conductivity compared to tin-based alloys, but they are more cost-effective, offer better high-temperature strength, and possess self-lubricating properties. They are often used in equipment operating under low-speed and low-load conditions.
